Printing

Printing is method of replicating text or images using ink. Prints are usual made on paper, although it is possible to print onto other surfaces. Modern printing is usually done using a printing press, such as the type used for printing out newspapers, but there are many other methods of printing too.

The earliest form of printing would most likely have been accomplished using a blocks of wood with the image, or character that was to be pressed carved as a relief into the base of the block, this would have been placed into some variety of dye or ink and then pressed against the surface the print was desired to made on allowing for rapid and repeated replication of the same image.

Printing has come a long way since ancient times and block printing, with modern printing presses churning out huge volumes of printed material in a relatively short space of time.

Printing is no longer restricted to industrial applications such as printing newspapers; the technology has advanced far enough to allow people to have small printers in their own homes, enabling them to print documents and even high quality photographs from their computers.

There is a huge market for home printers, and these days even laser printers can be opened at a relatively low cost allowing rapid and high quality printing in the home.
